Professor Florian Solzbacher
Co-founder, Chairman & President
Florian is Director of the Center for Engineering Innovation at the University of Utah, Co-Director of the Utah Nanotechnology Institute, Executive Chairman of Blackrock Microsystems and Chairman of NeuroMed. Prof. Solzbacher received his M.Sc. EE (Dipl.- Ing.) from the Technical University Berlin in 1997 and his Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) from the Technical University Ilmenau in 2003. He is co-founder of several companies including First Sensor Technology. Florian is also a member of the Governing Authority Board for the Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative (USTAR). He was director of the Utah Nanofabrication Laboratory until 2013 and serves on a number of company and public private partnership advisory and reviewer boards in Europe and the US including the German Excellence Initiative, the European Research Council ERC, The Utah Governor’s Science and Technology advisory board and NIH/NINDS Neural Interfaces Conference. He is author of over 190 journal and conference publications, five book chapters and 16 pending patents.

Marcus is CEO of Blackrock Microsystems and Board Director of Neuromed. Marcus has an MPhil from Oxford University and an MA from St. Andrews. He is an entrepreneur and investment advisor focused on innovative technologies and alternative investment markets. In 1999, Marcus helped set up his first start-up, Mondus, a pioneering ecommerce platform. Subsequently, Marcus founded BBI, which advises technology companies on funding, commercialization and growth strategies. In 2003, he co-founded one of the leading frontier market asset managers in the Middle East. With Blackrock he is hoping to improve patient impact as it relates to the final frontier of the human body – the brain. He is all too aware of the limits of his own body when it comes to riding and hiking up and down the Wasatch mountains, but that does not stop him from trying to push that frontier too.
Partner & Chief Executive Officer, NeuroMed
Andy is a medical device executive with over 15 years of experience. Previously, he was Director of Research Products Business at CKI, leading the sales strategy and responsible for annual revenue growth in excess of 40 percent. Andy previously held the position of Sales Operations Manager at Haemonetics Corp. in Braintree (MA) for five years. Subsequently, he was CEO of Blackrock Microsystems and took the company through five years of double digit growth. He is currently on the board of a number of companies and charitable trusts, including the Jewish Community Centre, SLC. Andy holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Andy is extremely vocal and passionate about providing customer satisfaction in the fields of neurodiagnostics and epilepsy, but wait until you see him when the Patriots play.

Mr. Lau is Founder, Chairman and CEO of Kim Ann Engineering Pte Ltd, a leading specialty metals business in Singapore.
Mr. Stern is a Director at Starboard Capital, Boston MA. He was previously Chief Strategy Officer at Xerox.
